YouTube’s three-fourths rule places increased emphasis on titles
November 14th, 2011
From an SEO perceptive, the title of a YouTube video is the most important piece of content on a page, Search Engine Land reports. This is because YouTube treats each video like an HTML code, similar to that of a regular web page.
Meta tags are created for the title of the video (the title tag) and the video description (the description tag), and actual tags themselves become meta keywords. Thus, creating an SEO-focused title can greatly improve its ability to rank well on a search engine results page.
Now, SEO Digerati reports that YouTube may have tightened its title restrictions even further, recently announcing that if the title doesn't accurately describe 75 percent of the video's content, it could be removed from the site.
This means companies that post YouTube videos to their websites or YouTube itself must be even more careful, as they still need to position primary keywords near the beginning of the title and use compelling phrases or branding at the end, Search Engine Watch adds.
