Study: Most people rely on search engines to get information on internet

August 17th, 2011

Search engines are key to marketing

One recent study revealed that the vast majority of adults in the United States use search engines when trying to find information on the internet.

The May 2011 Pew Internet survey revealed that 93 percent of respondents said they used sites like Google and Bing as a means to find out information. The survey also found that 59 percent of users reported that they used the search engines on a typical day, highlighting the growing importance of SEO for businesses in a variety of sectors.

"Perhaps surprisingly for an online activity that has been around for a while, search is most popular among the youngest adult internet users (those age 18-29), 96 percent of whom use search engines to find information online. But even among the oldest internet users (age 65+), 87 percent are search engine users. "

There was other news recently for business professionals hoping to take advantage of SEO. In an article for Entrepreneur magazine, Mike Spadier wrote that Google's new social media platform, Google+ could have a major effect on how businesses integrate marketing strategies.
