Some advice from AOL’s SEO chief
September 9th, 2011
The head of search engine optimization for AOL recently gave advice to people in the marketing field, possibly offering an advantage when it comes to drawing more people to their websites.
In a recent interview with Tech Journal South, Simon Heseltine said that business professionals needed to constantly look at what type of content they use and learn about what types of words Google's algorithm responds to. He said that in order to return the most accurate results, the world's search engine leader was shifting how it ranked pages.
“You have to keep your finger on everything all the time. Google changes its (SEO) algorithm daily," he told the source. "Some changes are minor, some very noticeable. But change is inevitable and it can change very quickly."
One of the things he suggests is that companies make their sites "crawlable," meaning that they can be found by search engine spiders.
Other SEO experts have been giving businesses advice when it comes to online strategies. In an article for Fast Company, marketing expert Brendan Cournoyer writes that the content itself must be relevant to the customers on the site.
