SEO skills are increasingly important in job search
2009-07-17
With so many layoffs recently, job seekers are considering changing careers and learning new skills and according to a recent index, they may want to consider search engine optimization (SEO).The July Online Work Index from online job website Elance finds that once again work related to SEO is near the top of the list for jobs companies are looking to fill.
In terms of writing SEO content, Elance says four categories - web content (number six), content writing (number 12), search engine optimization (number 21) and copywriting (number 23) - all appear near the top of the index.
Perhaps indicating an increasing need for search engine optimization among companies, SEO jobs jumped six spots from May's Online Work Index.
The index also points out that people with experience in content management systems are in high demand as skills in Joomla! came in at the number eight spot on the list.
SEO is just one of a number of tools job seekers should have knowledge of when looking for positions in the world of online media said Harry Gold, founder and CEO of Overdrive, recently in a piece for ClickZ.
In the column, Gold noted 21 basic and advanced terms he said entry level job seekers should know when applying for work.
