Mobile search to account for greater segment of overall searches in 2011

December 22nd, 2010

Mobile searches will account for 16 percent of clicks in 2011.

Businesses may want to begin focusing their B2B search engine optimization strategies on mobile devices, as MediaPost reports that mobile click-through rates are set to grow in 2011.

Currently, mobile phones only account for about 8.3 percent of search click-throughs. However, this number is expected to jump to 11 percent during the first three months of 2011, and will account for 16 percent of clicks through by the end of the year.

Speaking with MediaPost, Performics CEO Daina Middleton suggested that because mobile devices account for such a small percentage of clicks, many businesses don't devote much budget to mobile search. However, once they account for at least 10 percent of all searches, Middleton believes that search budgets devoted to mobile platforms will expand exponentially.

A number of business owners use BlackBerry devices and other smartphones to keep on top of their companies while they are on the road. This makes mobile search even more valuable to B2B companies that are targeting these individuals.
