Job market in SEO industry is strong
2009-03-26
During the down economy many companies are cutting their workforce to trim costs, but one industry that appears to be seeing growth is search engine optimization (SEO).A number of reports over the last year have found that search engine marketing (SEM) and SEO are two of the few areas in the marketing world that are actually expanding with figures from the Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization (SEMPO) predicting SEM spending to exceed $26 billion by 2013.
Because of this a number of companies in the optimization world are hiring and people who didn't know what SEO was a few months ago are doing their best to learn in a changing environment.
A story last month from Mercy Livi on ThatsSEO.com found that the number of jobs listed on the job website Indeed.com rose 20 percent during 2008. According to Indeed.com, salaries in SEO average $70,000 - 15 percent higher than the average salary for all jobs across the country.
By comparison, the site finds that the average salary for marketing positions in the U.S. is $55,000 - 9 percent below the national average.
"The SEO industry is blooming and the demand is strong and focused," wrote Livi. "The bottom line is the [opportunity] is wide open and [it's] left to us to grab it."
