Google leads way in search, with SEO implications
September 21st, 2011
A report from Experian Hitwise recently revealed that while Google continues to account for the majority of online searches, some of its competitors are making progress in eating away at its dominate market share.
The report found that Google searches represented 65 percent of all searches conducted online in the four-week period ending on August 27, while Bing searches, which also include Yahoo Search, accounted for 28.99 percent. The two firms are by far the dominate players in the search field, which has gained added importance in recent years with businesses implementing search engine optimization.
The report revealed other trends as well.
"Longer search queries – those averaging five to eight words or more – increased 3 percent from July 2011 to August 2011," Experian Hitwise stated. "One-word searches comprised the majority of searches, amounting to 26.26 percent of all queries. Shorter search queries – one to four words – decreased 1 percent from July 2011 to August 2011."
Those hoping to obtain clients through SEO may also want to take advantage of the growing mobile device market. A report by IBM titled The Mobile Sweep: Will Mobile Supersede the Web, showed that there are growing opportunities for marketing in the mobile search sector.
