Google+ Communities Could Present B2B Marketers With Opportunities

December 7, 2012: A recent announcement on the Google Blog introduces Google+ Communities, a way to connect and interact with users with similar interests. This update could present B2B marketers with an opportunity to create brand and industry awareness geared toward interested individuals.

The Google+ platform is one of the fastest growing social networks, with more than 500 million users and 135 million active participants. Google+’ Community feature allows users to create a gathering place for topics of interest by adding content and comments to share with others. The Community then allows users to share with their community from any “+1” button from across the web. SocialMediaExaminer research shows Google+ is a top five social media channel for B2B marketers, behind Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn, and this feature could provide B2B marketers an opportunity to further Google+ efforts.

From a SocialMediaB2B post, “By now, many B2B companies have had enough time to assess the value of their Facebook and Twitter marketing. If results are lacking, a shift to Google+ is a much better option than giving up on social media. For B2B marketers that have not yet taken the social marketing plunge, exploring Google+ could be the perfect first step.”

As Google+ continues to expand its use and functionality, B2B marketers have an opportunity to create industry buzz on a fast-growing social media channel. With the emergence of Google Authorship, coupled with the Community feature on Google+, marketers will do well to keep pace with the evolving digital landscape.
