Last week Laura Lippay wrote a post for the Yahoo Search Marketing Blog detailing how marketers can use Yahoo! Site Explorer for checking backlinks to their website(s).

I bookmarked the article because it’s a great tutorial on how to use Yahoo! Site Explorer (YSE) and identifies some of the not-so-visible benefits of registering your site with the search engine.

Over the past ten years we have seen link building strategies come and go but they never really disappear.   There is always something that can still be done.

I have listed three such tactics below that not only can be used but should be used.

Your Master Account in Yahoo functions similarly to the Master Client Center in AdWords.

Whenever you join an account to your Master Account, you gain administrative and editorial control to these accounts.  You then have the option to log in as your master account ID, the original account ID, or you  can create a new user and give this ID access to the joined account.

Once the account is joined you can access their campaigns, data, run reports, and pursue all the functionality of these linked accounts as if you created the account yourself. Yesterday someone asked me “Is a site’s SEO improved at all if it is tagged using RDFa?”

My first step in answering this was to ask Derek!  His technical skills and in-depth knowledge of cutting edge SEO developments far outweigh mine.

Derek’s answer was:

“RDFa is a web design/development standard (RDFa details here).  SE’s take into account some of the variables but being RDFa compliant does not ensure a better ranking.  It’s like being W3C compliant; proper code helps improve an SE’s ability to crawl and interpret the website but does not necessarily improve rankings.”  ... Earlier in the month Google announced a search technology partnership with Yahoo!

Essentially this does two things:

Last Friday, Techcrunch posted an announcement that Yahoo would be testing and integrating del.icio.us social bookmarking numbers directly into certain search results.

In addition to the traditional information users see (titles, search descriptions, URL etc), searchers may also see the number of people that bookmarked any given page and what tags they used to “describe” that page.

I’ve been a strong proponent of del.icio.us for quite a while but often neglected the “social” aspects of the tool in favor of other social news and bookmarking services (Digg, StumbleUpon, etc). If this move proves successful, it could become a major reason to use del.icio.us for more than just a personal bookmarking tool.  ... Read the full post
