PPC Checklist (for moderate AdWords management)

Monday, July 6th, 2009

I was recently providing training to a client so that they could manage their own Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising program.   In order to give them something to use as a reference, I created a “PPC Checklist” for them.

The primary factors in determining what I recommended to them were:

  1. They are currently only using Google AdWords.
  2. They are not using any automatic bid management software
  3. The person responsible for managing the PPC program has limited time to dedicate to daily management
  4. The level of advertising spend is relatively low (in the single-digit $$thousands)

A Definitive Guide to Using the DiggBar

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Launched earlier this month, the DiggBar enables people to share and Digg with a browser-based toolbar. DiggBar brings functionality that once was only inherent to users on Digg.com to the traditional web user, including reviewing comments, finding related content and sharing Digg submissions through Twitter and Facebook.

The DiggBar

For a general DiggBar overview and thoughts on why this new Digg functionality may be valuable, I’ve written an initial post here.

This post provides a guide to DiggBar functionality and background on recent developments, discussions and updates.

Twitter Tip: How to Use Google to Search Specific Twitterstreams

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Yesterday I wanted to forward a link to someone that Chris Winfield posted on Twitter. I knew I “retweeted” the update some time ago but after clicking through a few pages of my Twitterstream to find that retweet, I also knew there had to be a better way to do this.

200+ Negative Keywords to Consider for B2B PPC

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

(After you read this article, consider using our free Keyword List Generator to build large lists of target keywords and/or negative keywords.)

Every search engine advertiser should be using negative keywords in their Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns and/or Ad Groups. Negative keywords are words and phrases that you do not want searchers to associate with your products and services (see Google’s AdWords blog for some high-level information about negative keywords).

When you add negative keywords to your PPC campaigns your ads will not be served if those words are part of the user’s search query.

6 Ways to Use Google Alerts for B2B Online Marketing

Monday, November 5th, 2007

In a post on our blog in late August this year (2007), Derek did a fantastic job of laying out ways to make Google work for you (instead of you working “for” Google).  In that post Derek referenced Google Alerts and how to use this service

I thought it would be fun to give people a list of some specific ways to use Google Alerts on a daily basis.  While these techniques can be used by any online marketer, the tactics listed below are especially useful for B2B marketers (and we specialize in B2B SEO and online marketing )…

An Overview of Google Webmaster Tools and Webmaster Central

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

It seems like forever since Google first announced a Sitemaps program for webmasters; allowing the website owner to submit their web addresses to Google for indexing and crawling. Sitemaps has since evolved into a suite of Google services and tools – Google Webmaster Central, which allows webmasters to better understand how their site performs and is viewed by the search engine as well as diagnostic and reporting tools designed to aid the website owner in addressing issues and resolving problems. This post is meant to provide an overview of Google Webmaster Central, highlighting how to use the service and specific functionality many of our clients have found valuable in their search engine marketing efforts.
